Jewelry Care

Prevent Tarnish on Your Jewelry: Tarnish is a layer of corrosion that develops on many metals, particularly sterling silver. One method of preventing tarnish is to place metal jewelry in an air tight zip lock bag - keeping it from moisture. For extra protection put an anti-tarnish tag in the zip lock bag. (We use Hagerty Silver Protection Strips - they are totally safe, do not emit gases, and are non-toxic).

Instead of non-tarnish strips, you can substitute a few pieces of chalk board chalk in with your jewelry. The chalk works the same way as the strips, absorbing the airborne substances that cause tarnish.

Another way to care for your sterling silver jewelry is to clean it regularly with an anti-tarnish silver polish. Polish seems to be much better than cream, which is too thick and difficult to rinse out of some of the fine designs on silver. Most polishes i.e., Wrights Silver Polish will not harm stones, crystals or pearls on jewelry. Also, not recommended are any of the liquid dipping solutions, which can dull imported silver and adversely affect pearls.
